Solid Ptfe O Rings enjoy true chemical inertness. Ptfe is
unaffected by all known chemicals but this is its only
advantage. Ptfe sufferers badly from 'cold flow' and
as such is really not suitable for use as a
compression seal.

Enveloped O Rings
of Ptfe share the benefit of
chemical inertness and are low in production cost.
However, the design of the envelope can allow the
ingress of chemicals causing rapid seal failure.

O-Rings coated with
acrylic or latex suspended Ptfe dispersion do give
some low friction properties but the coating is very
easily removed. The method of manufacture is extremely
low cost but coated O Rings offer no chemical
protection.
